The Pearcey Oration is presented each year by an eminent Australian reflecting on critical contemporary issues impacting our nation that are driven by the introduction of advanced technologies into our society. The 2016 Pearcey Oration forms part of the annual Victorian Digital Innovation Festival and will be presented by Dr Amanda Caples, Victoria?s Lead Scientist.
Dr Caples will also present the 2016 Victorian State Pearcey Entrepreneur Award.
The Pearcey Foundation is pleased to host this event as part of the Digital Innovation Festival Victoria. Join in and celebrate the ?Victorian Difference? that drives industry, entrepreneurs and students to not only be different but make a difference through digital technology. The Festival runs for 12 days across Victoria from 26 August to 9 September.

Dr Caples is responsible for the development of strategic industry growth plans across 10 sectors of the Victorian economy and for support of the Victorian science, innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Amanda joined the Victorian Public Service in 2002 as the inaugural Director of Biotechnology before being appointed in 2008 as the Executive Director Science & Technology to drive Victoria's science agenda. In these roles Amanda has been responsible for major science and research infrastructure projects across Victoria's technology precincts, the negotiation of international collaborative R&D agreements and for stakeholder engagement on regulatory reforms.
Amanda joined the VPS following a career commercializing Australian medical research with AMRAD and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute through licensing deals with international pharmaceutical companies, and the establishment of joint ventures and start-ups. Amanda started her career in the pharmaceutical industry with Servier Laboratories where she ran the Australian clinical studies to support the registration of the antihypertensive medicine Coversyl.
Amanda is passionate about science education and has been a Member of the Board of Governors of Ivanhoe Grammar School since 2009 and is a member of the Advisory Board of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Brain Function, the Swinburne Business School Industry Advisory Board and the Monash University Pharmaceutical Sciences Advisory Group.
