The ACCC is currently dealing with a range of important issues in telecommunications, the outcomes of which will have far reaching impacts on the development of the sector, competition in the sector, and social and economic consequences of substance. The issues include:
-
Merger or similar agreements between telecommunications carriers;
-
The impact of scale of sector investment, particularly in high cost regional and rural locations;
-
The impact of commercial agreements on the way in which spectrum allocations play out;
-
The fairness and reasonableness of access undertakings by NBN Co in relation to price and other terms for the longer-term provision of wholesale broadband access services, and
-
Consumer protection measures and developments generally
Anna Brakey, Commissioner for Communications will speak on the challenges and issues currently before the ACCC. The extent to which she is able to address these issues at the event, and to provide detailed answers to questions from the audience, will, of course, depend on how matters have progressed or reached finality. Nevertheless, as many who have dealings with Anna Brakey in her ACCC role will understand, she will likely engage with the audience to the extent that protocols and sensitivities permit.
TelSoc is very pleased that she has agreed to speak on these issues at our event, which is being held immediately following the TelSoc AGM. The TelSoc AGM is open tio financial members of TelSoc, but this follow-on event is open to all stakeholders and all who are interested and who register in advance.
