The original Privacy Act from 1988 was amended 29 November 2012 and introduced significant changes requiring private organisations and public agencies to be compliant by March 2014. As a consequence of these changes the Privacy Commissioner has increased powers to enforce compliance of the new Australian Privacy Principles (APP).

This includes steep financial penalties of up to $1.7 million if the privacy breach is considered to be serious.

Jan has specific expertise in conducting privacy assessments for organisations and agencies, advising on the initiatives that can be implemented to ensure compliance with the new Australian Privacy Principles.
