Business agility and environmental sustainability have at least one common thread - the minimization of waste through the reduction of complexity.  In this talk, Sundar will outline 3 approaches adopted at HP that resonate with this aim including:

  • Software-defined servers such as HP's Moonshot which use 89% less energy and which are 77% more cost effective compared with traditional servers
  • A Systems portfolio management approach that resulted in HP reducing 85 data centres down to 6, retiring 75% of its platforms, and saving $1B OPEX p.a.
  • An approach to granularly baseline energy consumption and carbon emissions across IT and network devices and the application of policies which have resulted in 90 kilotons of carbon emissions abatement and 183MWh of energy saved.
