TelSoc Online Event: Professor William Webb: Is it really the end of telecoms history?

TelSoc has pleasure in announcing its next online event on Wednesday, 12 March 2025, from 5.00 pm.
The presentation will be by Professor William Webb, connecting from the United Kingdom. He will present a perspective on the history of telecommunications, highlighting why we are now in a different phase than any that has come before, and the likely consequences of that for the sector and more generally.
William’s presentation will draw on his many publications and substantial work in the sector, especially in the mobile services area and in spectrum policy and management, such as The 5G Myth. In particular the presentation will pick up on his most recent book, The End of Telecoms History, published in mid-2024.
The End of Telecoms History has provoked a high level of controversy about the business case that has underpinned the mobile industry in recent years, and its viability. About William Webb: William is an independent consultant providing advice across all telecommunications matters and an Associate with Incyte Consulting. He was one of the founding directors of Neul, a company developing machine-to-machine technologies and networks. Prior to this William was a Director at Ofcom where he managed a team providing technical advice and performing research. He has worked for a range of communications consultancies and spent three years providing strategic management across Motorola’s entire communications portfolio, based in Chicago. He was IET President 2014-2015. |

William has published 20 books, 100 papers, and 18 patents. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IEEE and the IET, a Visiting Professor at Southampton University and a Board Member of the Marconi Society. He has been awarded multiple honorary doctorates by the UK’s leading universities.
