Satellite direct-to-device connectivity: “To MSS D2D or to IMT D2D? Is that the question?”

TelSoc has pleasure in announcing its next online event on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, from 12.30 p.m.

TelSoc is continuing with the space theme into July, following on the very informative and interesting presentation on 4 June given by Dan Lloyd and Isobel Haddow, CEO and Membership Executive, respectively, of the Space Industry Association of Australia.

There is a lot of interest in the progress and trials of satellite direct-to-device (D2D) capabilities and services.  Industry online journals seem to be reporting every other day on new trials and forums in which developments and initiatives are announced.

Alex Orange is very well placed to give us a great background briefing.  Alex’s broad theme will be satellite direct-to-device connectivity, and, in his presentation, Alex will drill down into three sub-themes: “how did we get here?”; “where are we now?”; and “where are we going?”. In the process he will touch on regulatory, technology and business developments supporting a truly global, integrated satellite and terrestrial mobile communications network. As the sub-title of Alex’s presentation suggests, there are important issues on the way, including the competing technologies that have been adopted by various key space enterprises.

As with all TelSoc lunchtime events, Alex’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A session in which TelSoc members and industry colleagues will be able to raise questions and issues – and get some answers.  Past experience suggests that the Q&A sessions are incredibly interesting and informative.  Given Alex’s substantial and diverse experience, his presentation and participation in the Q&A will be well worth your time.
