This paper summarizes results from a survey of the New Zealand mobile market by Venture Insights in October 2018. The survey identified a strong consumer interest in and awareness of 5G, with mobile video a strong driver. Fixed wireless broadband service was also strongly supported, and Ultra-Fast Broadband fixed service is likely to be a strong competitor to fixed wireless broadband.
China and the broader APAC region are emerging as key drivers of technology. This is being driven by a growing and better educated middle-class in the region. Australia seems reluctant to be part of this region and continues to take its lead from the Western Hemisphere.
What can Australia do to embrace the new possibilities offered by a rising China in the technology sector? What does Australia need to do to remain a “Smart State” in a changing World?

Kevin's talk will outline the needs, challenges and solutions and explains how critical communications are integrating into the new standards and what directions and levels of integration we can see with other forms of Telecommunications in the future.
Papers in the December 2018 issue of the Journal include discussion on 5G security, what’s next for the National Broadband Network, a technical paper on the conflicts in routing and UAV autonomy, HTTP traffic flow load balancing and an insight into how the use of location information affects privacy. The history of Australian telecommunications paper on impressions of an overseas visit by a lines engineer provides an insight into how knowledge transfer improves with the opportunity to study telecommunications in Europe, North America and Australia.
The 3GPP unites seven of the world’s telecommunications standard development organizations (SDOs) to provide a stable environment in which to define the open standards underpinning current and future mobile cellular networks. This is a unique opportunity to have some of the 3GPP leadership come to Melbourne for a Government and Industry briefing.
With the next generation of wireless technology 5G accelerating at a rapid pace, and Australia playing a key role in global EMF standardisation, this presentation will provide an overview of 5G, how 5G works and the challenges and opportunities ahead in managing Electromagnetic Fields.
A software-defined radio implementation of polynomial cancellation coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (PCC-OFDM) is presented in this paper. Based on the comparative results obtained on the hardware platform, the properties of PCC-OFDM make it a suitable candidate for consideration in future 55G applications requiring robust performance in asynchronous environments with minimal out of band spectral emissions.
