Gigabit Networks are capable of delivering bidirectional service access speeds of up to one gigabit per second (1Gbps) and are in operation in several countries around the world.
The presentation highlights five Gigabit Networks including a review of the motivations behind their developments, deployment approaches and service offerings:
- South Korea?s Gigabit Project.
- Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN).
- B4RN ? Broadband for the Rural North (UK).
- Chattanooga EPB Fiber (US).
- Google Fiber (US).
In particular, the presentation also addresses responses from incumbent carriers, cable operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to Google Fiber?s novel deployment initiatives.
AFTER the conclusion of Nguyen's presentation at 1pm, there will be an opportunity for you to network with your industry colleagues over tea and coffee until 1.30pm.

Dr Nguyen Duc is Principal, EagleComms Advisory, specialising on broadband strategies and policies.
[3] He has over 20 years of management experience in telecommunications regulations, strategies and policies, built over 38 years of service with Telstra and its predecessors.
Nguyen was also a Visiting Associate Professor at the Syracuse University School of Computer and Information Science, Syracuse, New York State.
He received his Bachelor of Engineering and Ph.D. in telecommunications from the University of Queensland in Brisbane.
Nguyen is an active contributor on LinkedIn, especially on Gigabit Networks and Net Neutrality.
