TelSoc News and Events
There’s a lot happening in space – get briefed
If you have not registered to attend TelSoc’s free online lunchtime event on Wednesday 16 July, 2025 (commencing at 12.30 pm Sydney time), now is the time to do it.
Alex Orange of Omnispace will be our presenter and his topic is Satellite direct to device connectivity: “To MSS D2D or to IMT D2D? Is that the question?”
We are fortunate to have been able to get Alex for this session, given his extensive experience in both the broader telecommunications sector and in the space industry in particular.
Members and colleagues who attended our June lunchtime event with Dan Lloyd and Isobel Haddow of the Space Industry Association would have come away with a heightened appreciation of the developments in the space sector and the sheer immensity of the potential for improved communications and connectivity.
Alex will continue with that theme, and will be able to engage with us on the potential that is now opening up.
All of our members and colleagues immediately understood the Shakespearean resonance of the question that Alex has posed – as you might expect. But some have wondered if the presentation will be about the intricacies of standards. Spoiler alert! The answer to the question in the title is “it’s more than that”. The major emphasis on D2D (Direct to Device) in the satellite services sector is driving investment, service outcomes and timetables. Register for the event to find out how.
As with all TelSoc lunchtime events, Alex’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A session in which TelSoc members and industry colleagues will be able to raise questions and issues – and get answers. Given Alex’s substantial and diverse experience in the industry, his presentation and the Q&A will be well worth your while.
