Trust, reform and the future of telecommunications: Building a framework that works for everyone

Date and Time: 23/09/2026

Cynthia Gebert, Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman (TIO)

TelSoc has pleasure in announcing our next lunchtime webinar which will be held on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, from 12.30 p.m. AEST.

We are honoured to have Cynthia Gebert, the Telecommunicatiuons Industry Ombudsman, as our speaker.  Cynthia has presented at TelSoc lunchtime webinars before.  We are really glad to have her back again and not before time.  A lot has happened to the industry in the past few years and we are entering a new era of significant change.

Cynthia will help us work our way through some of the most important issues for the industry and for consumers.  Her topic is Trust, reform and the future of telecommunications: Building a framework that works for everyone.

The telecommunications industry faces a critical challenge: building trust while navigating rapid change. Drawing on insights from the TIO’s latest systemic report, Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Cynthia Gebert will examine how consumer outcomes, industry leadership and meaningful reform can create a more resilient, trusted and future-ready telecommunications sector.

The latest TIO Systemic Insights Report was published earlier this month and is called Left behind: Experiences of telco consumers living in regional, rural and remote Australia. It is available on the TIO website at: https://assets.tio.com.au/files/a4c4cc788cbfd3f3a170226d451f0fa19affad50.pdf

As with all TelSoc lunchtime events, Cynthia’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A session in which TelSoc members and industry colleagues will be able to raise questions and issues – and get answers. Past experience suggests that these sessions are invariably veryinteresting and informative. Given Cynthia’s substantial experience in the sector, and the involvement of the TIO across the full range of issues and challenges that service providers and customers are now grappling with, the Q&A session will be well worth your time.
