After thirty years the Internet is showing signs of strain. The engagement of computers with communications had been heralded with such promise, but it has turned sour. We’ve seen the Internet’s powers of disruption in retail, television and newspapers. Now it’s turning on itself with dark tales of election tampering, the destructive side of social media and an unhealthy preoccupation with cyber warfare. How did the Internet embark on such a self-destructive path?

Geoff Huston is a pioneer of the Internet in Australia, bringing the technology to Australia in 1989. He has been closely involved in the evolution of the technology of the Internet for many years, working for the Universities, then with Telstra and is currently the Chief Scientist at the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre.

Henry Sutton has an astounding list of accomplishments in many areas, which are all now detailed in his great-granddaughter’s book “Henry Sutton the Innovative Man”

Join TelSoc and Geoff for a buffet dinner on Thursday 20thJune 2019 at the Angliss Restaurant, 550 Lt Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. We will start at 5:30pm and finish around 8pm, with drinks and a sit-down buffet meal included.
