The Charles Todd Medal Honour Roll
The first Charles Todd Medal for Excellence in Communications was established by ATUG (the Australian Telecommunications Users Group) in 1992. This prestigious medal was awarded every year until ATUG ceased operating at the end of 2011.
The tradition of awarding the Charles Todd Medal annually for outstanding contributions to telecommunications has been followed by TelSoc since its inception in 2013, with the warm support of former ATUG Managing Directors Rosemary Sinclair and Allan Horsley, and of ATUG's long-term General Manager Elizabeth Lawler.
The Charles Todd Medal is named in honour of Sir Charles Todd, the leader of the team which connected Darwin to Adelaide by telegraph in 1872 and thus Australia to London and the rest of the world. Arguably, the global telegraph network was the original digital 'world wide web'.
