Giles Tanner is the General Manager, Digital Transition Division, at the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). A lawyer by training, he is currently leading all ACMA work related to the digitisation of television and radio broadcasting, including the 'restack' of digital television services to clear spectrum in the 700MHz band for reallocation. He is also responsible for the conduct of an auction of spectrum licences, scheduled for April 2013, relating to the re-allocation of spectrum in the 700MHz and 2.5GHz bands.
In his previous role at the ACMA, he was responsible for managing the radiofrequency spectrum in order to maximise the overall public benefit through the efficient allocation and use of these public resources.
