Presented by Dr Leith Campbell
Tuesday, 26th June 2018
The National Broadband Network (NBN) should create long-term benefit for Australia. The most direct effect is to increase the availability of high-speed broadband. Based on publicly available information and census data, we can show where and by how much higher broadband speeds will be available to Australian households and businesses. In this presentation, we show maps of where broadband availability is improved by the NBN.
The NBN also triggers other changes. In an earlier presentation to TelSoc, we emphasised the potential economic benefits. Now, we can update the economic results and look at the early evidence that the NBN is making a difference to business in Australia. We also discuss other factors, such as the carbon footprint generated by the NBN.
This presentation is largely based on the Ph.D. work by Sascha Suessspeck at the University of Melbourne. A related paper has been published in the March 2018 issue of the Australian Journal of Telecommunications and the Digital Economy.
After Leith's presentation ends at 1.30pm, there will be an opportunity for you to network with your industry colleagues over tea and coffee until 2.00pm.
