Journal now in Scopus

Elsevier Scopus, an International Journal database and ranking service, has agreed to accept a title change for the Telecommunications Journal of Australia to the Australian Journal of Telecommunications and the Digital Economy. This is an important step for the Journal as it means the Journal can be ranked in the next round of the Australian Research Council  Excellence in Research rankings and as a result Academics and students will gain official recognition for papers submitted to the Journal. An official ranking will be added to the Journal home page soon!

New novel echoes the Trujillo and Blount years at Telstra

Telecommunications aficionados will be fascinated to know that Emeritus Professor Trevor Barr, former Co-Chair of the Telstra Consultative Consumer Council, has just published a novel, Grand Intentions,  that deals intensively with culture change during the two previous decades of the Australian telecommunications industry.

While the characters in the novel are fictitious, much of the plot is driven by echoes of real events which occurred during the times of former Telstra CEOs Frank Blount and Sol Trujillo, in the 1900s and 200s respectively.

Independent reviews of the book ? all very favourable ? have appeared from three well-known industry identities: Peter Gerrand, David Havyatt and Jim Holmes.  The titles of the first two reviews convey their authors? enthusiasm: ?The Trollope of Australian telecommunications? (PG) and ?When innovation is a ripping yarn? (DH).  Jim Holmes commends the novel as a ?must-read for those with an interest in what could become a dystopian drama if not for ?  grand intentions and worthy aspirations?. The Gerrand and Holmes reviews can be found in the new September issue of Telsoc?s e-journal, the Australian Journal of Telecommunications and the Digital Economy.

Grand Intentions, already on sale, will be formerly launched on 21 September at Readings in Melbourne.
