Harry Stewart Wragge AM BEE(Hons) MEngSc HonDEng was educated at Scotch College and Melbourne University. He spent most of his professional career in the PMG/Telecom/Telstra Research Laboratories, rising to Director. He finished his career in Telstra as Chief Technical Adviser to the CEO. During his research career in the Laboratories, he represented Australia at meetings of the International Consultative Committee for Telephony and Telegraphy (CCITT) Special Study Group D, which was concerned with the development of standards for digital transmission, switching and signalling, and became a Vice Chairman of that Group.
He went on to chair the Accreditation Board of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, to chair two Cooperative Research Centres and to serve on the Councils of Melbourne University and Swinburne University of Technology.
He has been inducted into the Halls of Fame of the City of Frankston and of the Pearcey Institute. He was awarded the Kernot Medal by Melbourne University and the Honorary Doctor of Engineering by Monash University and a Centenary Medal by the Australian Government in 2001.
